UWI SRC Reports Two 3.9 Magnitude Earthquakes Near Trinidad and Tobago Region in the Last 24 Hours

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre (SRC) has reported two 3.9 magnitude earthquakes near Trinidad and Tobago.

The first earthquake occurred on March 25, 2024, at 08:16 am local time (12:16 UTC). According to SRC data, the earthquake’s epicenter was located at a latitude of 10.98N and a longitude of 62.03W, with a depth of 32 km.

The second earthquake occurred on March 25, 2024, at 03:14 am local time (07:15 UTC). According to SRC data, the earthquake’s epicenter was located at a latitude of 10.76N and a longitude of 62.14W, with a depth of 37 km.

Nearby cities affected by both earthquakes include Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, which is approximately 70 km west of the epicenter, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, approximately 94 km northwest, and Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, approximately 96 km west.

The SRC has urged individuals who experienced the earthquakes to provide feedback through their website to aid in their ongoing research and analysis.

It is important to note that the preliminary locations of the earthquakes have been automatically calculated by computer algorithms and are subject to potential revisions pending further evaluation by SRC analysts.
