Law enforcement teams from US help TTPS capture another fugitive

For the second time in less than two weeks, federal agents from the Embassy of the United States based in Trinidad and Tobago, have helped ensure the capture and arrest of another fugitive from the U.S., who is wanted in the state of New York for attempted murder.

An official statement from the U.S. Embassy reports that its law enforcement team—comprising officials from the United States Marshal Service (USMS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Diplomatic Security Service (DSS)—worked closely with the Port of Spain Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and facilitated an arrest for an extradition warrant.

“U.S. federal agents worked closely with TTPS in coordination and planning, during an exhaustive manhunt spanning multiple months, to locate and arrest the subject,” the statement revealed.

According to the Embassy’s statement, Vincent Roberts, a U.S. Permanent Resident fugitive wanted in the state of New York for attempted murder, was arrested in Laventille on April 17, 2024.

He is being held in custody as the extradition process is finalized for his eventual return to the United States to stand trial for his alleged crimes.

“Also playing key roles and critical to the operation’s success were the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Kings County, New York, District Attorney’s Office,” the Embassy confirmed.

U.S. Ambassador Candace Bond has hailed the continued success of the bilateral partnership between the law enforcement agencies and entities in both countries.

“Nations working together to bring criminals to justice is a critical mission around the world, and others can now look to our joint efforts between the United States of America and Trinidad and Tobago as an example to emulate,” said Ambassador Bond.

She added: “We are very proud of our shared success and are eager to continue our efforts to provide safety and security to the people of our two great countries.”
