Magnitude 4.3 Earthquake Jolts Jamaica

On the evening of May 1st, Jamaica experienced a seismic event as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook various parts of the island. According to reports from the Earthquake Unit, the quake initially measured at 4.2 and was situated approximately five kilometres south of Hope Bay, Portland. The tremor struck at precisely 8:02 p.m.

Residents across several regions, including Kingston, St Catherine, St Andrew, Portland, and St Thomas, reported feeling the effects of the earthquake. While there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, the incident has sparked concerns among locals about the region’s seismic activity and preparedness measures.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to follow safety protocols in the event of any aftershocks.
