USVI records first murder for 2024

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) reported a shot spotter alerted them to a shooting in the area of Post Office Square, St Thomas at 3:05am on Sunday.

A 23-year-old man is the US Virgin Islands’ first murder victim for 2024.

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) reported a shot spotter alerted them to a shooting in the area of Post Office Square, St Thomas at 3:05am on Sunday.

Further calls to the 911 Emergency Call Centre from civilians alerted police that two individuals were shot and they were transported to the Roy Lester Schnieder Regional Medical Centre via private vehicles.

The deceased was identified as Jahnni Thompson.

He sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body and died while receiving treatment at hospital.

The second gunshot victim, who sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, remains in stable condition at hospital.
