TCI: Multi-Agency Interception Leads to Detention of 31 Irregular Migrants

In a successful joint operation, officers from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) Marine Branch, TCI Regiment, and the Fisheries Maritime Resource Management unit apprehended thirty-one irregular migrants attempting to enter the Turks and Caicos Islands illegally.

The interception occurred today, March 8th, at approximately 11:50 a.m. The officers intercepted a 25ft Grey Go Fast vessel with two Yamaha engines outside Muddy Point, North Caicos, detaining twenty-two males and nine females.

The apprehended migrants have been handed over to the Immigration Task Force for processing.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Specialist Tactical Operation) Mat Newton praised the swift and decisive action of the officers and partners involved in intercepting the illegal vessel. Newton emphasized the commitment of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s borders.

“Illegal maritime entry poses significant threats to our communities,” stated Newton. “The interception of this vessel sends a clear message that we will not tolerate criminal behavior on our seas.”

Newton expressed gratitude to the officers for their professionalism, courage, and determination in facing danger. He affirmed the force’s ongoing efforts to identify, disrupt, and prosecute those involved in illegal maritime activities.

“To our communities, I urge you to remain vigilant and report suspicious maritime activities to the authorities,” Newton continued. “Together, we can ensure a safer TCI on land and sea for all.”
