Montserrat Utilities Limited Ensures No Utility Disconnections for Debts in April

In a significant move aimed at providing relief to its customers, Montserrat Utilities Limited (MUL) has announced that no residents owing money on their utility bills will face disconnections for the month of April. This assurance was reiterated by the Managing Director, Julian Daniel, during an interview on ZJB Radio on April 12th.

Speaking about the initiative, Daniel emphasized the collaborative approach MUL is adopting towards its account holders. He stated, “We are welcoming the opportunity to work in very close partnership with our customers, and we urge them to take advantage of this opportunity to consider how they can settle their bills.” This proactive stance underscores MUL’s commitment to supporting its customers during challenging times.

To facilitate the process of settling outstanding balances, Daniel encouraged those in arrears to visit MUL’s administrative office in Brades. There, they can meet with the manager or customer services officer to discuss payment plans and revisit previous arrangements. “MUL understands that there are and will be challenges, and we know that we will work together in a mutually beneficial manner towards a positive outcome,” Daniel affirmed.

Furthermore, Daniel expressed MUL’s eagerness to enhance its support mechanisms for customers in the near future. He stated, “MUL needs you to assist us with the positive transformation of the way we serve you. We need you, our customers, to help us sustainably increase the reliability and quality of the electricity and water we all rely on.”

Acknowledging the cooperation of customers who consistently meet their financial obligations, Daniel conveyed MUL’s gratitude to all stakeholders. He emphasized the vital role they play in ensuring the smooth operation of utility services on the island.

In addition to addressing customer concerns, Daniel provided updates on recent infrastructure developments. He noted that faults in existing generators and a transformer had led to power outages across Montserrat in March. However, the acquisition and installation of a new generator, known as number eight, have significantly bolstered MUL’s capacity. Daniel expressed optimism that this upgrade will contribute to a more stable and resilient power supply for the island.
