Montserrat and Other Caribbean Islands Prepare for Partial Solar Eclipse on April 8th

On April 8th, as North America gears up for a total solar eclipse passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada, Montserrat and several other Caribbean islands anticipate a partial solar eclipse, offering a unique astronomical experience for residents across the region.

The website timeanddate.com provides timings for countries within the path of totality or where the partial solar eclipse will be observable. According to their data, Montserrat, along with Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Caribbean Netherlands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin, Sint Maarten, St Barts, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the US Virgin Islands, are among the Caribbean islands that will witness the partial solar eclipse.

In Montserrat, the partial eclipse will be visible from 15:02 until 15:50 (AST).

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon partially obscures the Sun’s face. NASA states that the eclipse will begin on Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 am PDT, gradually moving across various states in the United States and parts of Canada, before exiting continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland at 5:16 pm NDT.

Though not as dramatic as a total solar eclipse, this event presents an exciting opportunity for residents of Montserrat and other Caribbean islands to observe and appreciate the wonders of the cosmos from their respective locations.
