Guyana: Airport security team recovers US$5,500 for passenger

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Thursday reported the successful recovery of US$5,500 for a passenger. 

In a statement, the CJIA’s security department said the passenger, reported the missing money upon her arrival in Guyana on April 18. 

The CJIA security department promptly reviewed CCTV footage and identified a passenger who had picked up a package that had fallen from her. 

After sharing their findings with the Guyana Police Force, the passenger was located in Berbice and following thorough questioning, the Police managed to recover the full sum of money, which was then returned to her. 

The passenger expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the CJIA security staff and the Guyana Police Force, particularly CEO Ramesh Ghir and Commander Krishnadat Ramanarine. 

Meanwhile, Chairman of CJIA Board Sanjeev Datadin commended the airport security team and the Guyana Police Force for their work. 

He noted that in 2024, the CJIA security department successfully recovered over 260 items for passengers, including suitcases, laptops, mobile phones, jewellery, duty-free items, and travel documents.
