Cayman Islands: Case against former Premier to continues in private

On Wednesday, for the third consecutive day, the jury was dismissed as legal arguments in the case against McKeeva Bush MP for indecent assault were conducted behind closed doors. Some of today’s proceedings occurred without the jury present, and a gag order was issued to the press, prohibiting any reporting on the trial’s status or the day’s events. The jury is scheduled to reconvene at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Bush, who is the former Premier of the Cayman Islands, was charged last year following claims that he indecently assaulted two civil servants at a cocktail party at the Ritz hotel in September 2022 during a Caribbean Tourism Organisation conference hosted by the tourism ministry. Bush is charged with kissing one woman on the shoulder twice and biting and sucking another woman’s hand at the event. The women involved in the case have described Bush as extremely intoxicated and “weird and creepy.”

Bush has consistently denied the accusations.

The trial continues.
