CAF -Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean- approved a donation of USD 250,000 for Trinidad and Tobago, which will assist in alleviating the effects of the oil spill that has affected the coast of Tobago, damaged its beaches, reefs, and threatened the local tourism industry.
In a letter addressed to Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Executive President of CAF, Sergio Díaz-Granados, expressed the solidarity of the institution with the effects of the spill of oil on the coast of Tobago, and announced an immediate donation of USD 250,000 to the country to alleviate the effects of the disaster.
“CAF stands in solidarity with Trinidad and Tobago and offers all its technical and financial tools to support the Government in facing the effects of the oil spill on the country’s coasts and achieving a prompt solution to the problem”, said Sergio Díaz-Granados.
CAF aims to contribute to this humanitarian emergency relief efforts, through the appropriate government channels deemed by the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
The multilateral financial institution reiterates its commitment as a strategic ally for the development of its member countries.
In acknowledgment of the of letter, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert, said he was very appreciative and truly grateful for the financial and moral support extended by CAF, and also expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Prime Minister, Keith Rowley, and the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He further stated, “the Trinidad and Tobago Government looks forward to its continued engagement with CAF -Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean”.
