Antigua: Two men fined $12,000 each on gun and ammunition charges

In Antigua’s Magistrates’ Court, two men have been ordered to pay $12,000 each for their unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Radford Lawrence of College Street, Green Bay, and O’Marie Nedd of Potters appeared in a local Magistrates’ Court for separate gun-related offences on April 9.

In a separate incident, Nedd was fined $10,000 for unlawful possession of a 9mm pistol and $2,000 for two matching rounds of ammunition. The offense occurred on April 8 around 1:40 am when members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) spotted Nedd behaving suspiciously on Corn Alley during a patrol in the city. When approached, Nedd attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended with the illegal weapon. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and charged.

Appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Wason on Tuesday, April 9, both individuals were granted three months to pay the fines or face three months’ imprisonment at His Majesty’s Prison.
