Over 50 people were apprehended at South Salt Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands during an illegal boat landing yesterday.
The Ministry of Immigration and Border Services said the boat carrying migrants was spotted around 3 am and resources were mobilised to apprehend those involved and gather crucial information for ongoing investigations.
At the time of this statement, approximately 59 individuals had been apprehended, and one female migrant was found deceased.
The Ministry said it recognises the potential risks posed by the presence of illegal migrants and urges all residents to continue to take necessary precautions for their safety.
Residents have also been advised to secure their homes and belongings, exercise caution regarding unfamiliar individuals or activities, and promptly report suspicious persons, activity, or information to local authorities through the 911 emergency hotline.
It added that Border Force, in partnership with other agencies, will continue working tirelessly to protect the well-being of the community and maintain the security of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
