St Kitts and Nevis: Small Axe Band crowned Road March 2023

Small Axe Band captured the road march title with their infectious song ‘Showcase’. They earned a total of 816 points and a prize of $20,000.

The St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee has released the results for the J’ouvert and Road March at Sugar Mas 52.

Second place went to Grand Masters Band with their hit “Happy” amassing a total of 751 points and a prize of $15,000.  

Nu Vybes secured third position with their vibrant song “Ken and Barbie” accumulating a total of 740 points and a prize of $10,000.  

In the category of Large J’ouvert Troupes, Red Devils placed first with a score of 229 points and received the prize of $20,000.  

Chattabox J’ouvert claimed second position with a score of 223 points which earned them the prize of $15,000, while Xtreme J’ouvert placed third amassing a score of 191 points and a prize of $10,000.  

In the Small J’ouvert Troupes category, Small Axe Band Jouvert Warriors triumphed as the winners earning a score of 301 points and a prize of $6,000.  

Fantasy Jouvert secured the 1st runner-up position with a score of 270 points, earning them a prize of $4,000, while GM Addix earned the title of 2nd runner-up with a score of 259 points.  

The St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee said Tuesday’s J’ouvert celebrations were a success and marked a spirited start to the Sugar Mas 52 festivities.  

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew who participated in the J’ouvert celebrations said he enjoyed seeing everyone enjoying themselves.  

He said Christmas and Carnival are his favourite times of the year and looks forward to partaking in the Christmas traditions and the cultural displays at this time of the year.  

The Prime Minister pointed out that he particularly loved the patriotic pride this year.

PM Drew also addressed concerns about the use of water during J’ouvert. 

He noted the water used was seawater, as the government remains deeply concerned about the ongoing drought and the relative shortage of potable water.  

The prime minister reminded that the fire services and water department are providing water to the hardest hit areas.
