Ninth Homicide of 2024 Occurs at Newtown Fisheries Complex on St. Kitts

Amidst ongoing concerns over public safety, St. Kitts witnessed its ninth homicide of the year on April 15th, 2024, as a fatal shooting unfolded at the Newtown Fisheries Complex between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

According to authorities from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), 31-year-old Shaquille Chumney of East Street, Newtown, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate Mr. Chumney was targeted by a single armed assailant.

Neal Nicholls, aged fifty-nine (59), of Gillard Meadows, sustained a gunshot wound to one of his ankles during the incident and was treated at Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The RSCNPF’s Crime Scene Unit has initiated an investigation into the matter and urges anyone with information to contact the nearest Police station or the Crime Stoppers’ Hotline at 707.
