Police in Grenada have seized an estimated 1,000 pounds of marijuana over the past two weeks, including intercepting the drug at a courier service.

“Earlier this week in one of our courier facilities, 10 pounds of marijuana was intercepted and two persons were charged accordingly,” Police Commissioner, Don McKenzie said, without disclosing the name of the courier company or the identities of the individuals arrested and charged.

McKenzie said that police seized 510 pounds of marijuana with a street value of one million Eastern Caribbean dollars last week.

A police statement said that members from the Drug Squad Unit had intercepted a vehicle on the outskirts of the capital and discovered the marijuana.

“The cannabis weighed five hundred and ten pounds (510lbs.) and carries an estimated street value of one $1,156,680 EC. Two men are presently in police custody assisting with investigations. The vehicle was also impounded,” the police statement said.

McKenzie said that the police had also seized more than 400 pounds of marijuana during an operation two days ago and that “there are currently five persons assisting with the investigations”.
