Former Chief Inspector of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Wellington Junior Romney, has died.

Reports said Romney, who is affectionately known as “Butch”, passed away today at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital, in Road Town, BVI.

Romney served the RVIPF in multiple roles from 1973 until his retirement in 2002.

RVIPF remembered Romney as a disciplinarian, hardworking and committed lawman.

The police force noted he was rewarded with promotions many times during his career.

“At one point because of his work ethic, he was given the opportunity to act as Superintendent, but was not lucky enough to be confirmed in the rank,” RVIPF said.
