Dominica: Former government minister charged in connection with importation of firearm accessories

The former minister and Special Envoy in the Office of the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Kenneth Darroux is now on a $30,000.00 bail after two charges were brought against him by the police.

Police sources revealed that Dr. Darroux has been charged in connection with importation of firearm accessories without being the holder of a valid firearm importation license.

Dr. Darroux appeared before the Roseau Magistrate Court today sometime after 4:00 p.m., where he was granted bail in chamber by Magistrate Michael Laudat.

He is represented by attorneys-at-law Lennox Lawrence and Jodi Luke. Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Sherma Dalrymple, has conduct of the State’s case.

Dr. Darroux is expected to return to court on January 24, 2024, where the two charges will be read to him.

The former Parliamentary Representative of Petite Savanne held office for the past 18 years, serving in various ministerial capacities during his tenure in parliament. After his departure in the last general election in 2022, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced Darroux’s new role as a Special Envoy in the Office of the Prime Minister. This position includes attending Cabinet meetings on invitation as well as specific responsibilities for “Electoral Modernization.”
