BVI: Former Minister, Carvin Malone, has died

According to local media reports, he passed away at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital today.

The British Virgin Islands has been left in shock as former legislator and Minister of Health, Carvin Malone, has passed away. He was 64 years old.

Governor of the BVI John Rankin CMG, in a condolence message to his family said he is saddened at the news of the passing of former Minister of Health Carvin Malone. Governor Rankin thanked Malone for his service to the Virgin Islands, not only in Government but also in many areas, including as a dedicated member of the Lions Club.  

The Governor said he will particularly remember his service during the COVID-19 pandemic as Minister of Health when they worked closely.  

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands Party also paid tribute on the passing of its former President and former Territorial At-Large Representative. 

The political party said Malone served as the President of the Virgin Islands Party from 1999 to 2016, leaving an indelible mark on the BVI’s political landscape. It said after his success at the polls in 2019 he assumed the role of Minister of Health and Social Development from 2019 to 2022. 

Chairman Dr Natalio Wheatley expressed profound sadness at the sudden loss of Malone and acknowledged his significant contributions to the Virgin Islands. Wheatley emphasized the irreplaceable void left by Malone’s departure, noting that his legacy will forever be etched in the history of the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands Party.  

The party’s president Sharia de Castro also paid tribute to the late Carvin Malone, describing him as the voice and a steadfast champion of the Virgin Islands Party.  

The Virgin Islands Party said the sudden death of Malone has sent ripples of sorrow through the BVI community but together they will honour his memory.
