A tropical disturbance has emerged in the Atlantic Ocean west of Cape Verde. It is the first disturbance of the 2024 hurricane season, which experts are predicting will be very active.
The system is located 900 miles northwest of the Cape Verde Islands and is forecast to move southwestward at 10 mph to 15 mph.
It will move into an area of stronger upper-level winds on Wednesday night and Thursday, which will inhibit the system from strengthening.
It has a 10% chance of developing in the next seven days.
This system is not threat to Montserrat. However, this is a stark reminder for residents to start their Hurricane preparations early.
