3.9 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Near Montserrat

A seismic event has rattled the Eastern Caribbean, according to preliminary findings released by the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI, SRC).

The earthquake, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, struck on April 10, 2024, at 9:46 pm local time (01:46 UTC). Initial data indicates its epicenter was located at latitude 17.79N and longitude 62.21W, with a depth of 22 km.

Nearby cities felt the tremors, with Brades in Montserrat, approximately 110 km north, Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis, approximately 79 km northeast, and Saint John’s in Antigua and Barbuda, roughly 85 km northwest, being among the affected areas.

It’s important to note that these findings are preliminary and subject to potential revisions as UWI, SRC analysts continue to evaluate the data.
