In a significant development from the Caribbean music scene, Trinidadian Trinibad artist Kashif Alexander Sankar, best known by his stage name Kman-6ixx, is now facing two charges under the Anti-Gang Act of Trinidad and Tobago. The charges are based on allegations that Kman-6ixx is a gang member and has openly professed to be one, rooted in an investigation into his social media activities.
Charges and Bail
The artist, who recently made headlines for his gangster-themed music, appeared in court and was subsequently granted bail to the tune of $40,000. The charges imply Kman-6ixx’s involvement in gang activities, a conclusion drawn from his social media exchanges which seem to incite violence and promote the notorious Sixx gang.
Additional Charges
In addition to the gang-related charges, Kman-6ixx and two other individuals were slapped with charges of ammunition possession. This followed a police operation at the artist’s residence, further complicating his legal predicaments.
Music, Violence, and Censorship
Kman-6ixx’s legal battles come on the heels of his ban from performing in St Kitts and Nevis. A security assessment pointed out that his work promotes violence and gang life, leading to the cancellation of an event he was scheduled to headline. Notably, Kman-6ixx has been implicated in two shootings within the past year, surviving both but resulting in the death of four individuals in one episode.
Despite the controversy surrounding his music’s gangster themes, Kman-6ixx has pledged to shift his focus towards creating positive music in the future.
