The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating what it says are suspicious circumstances where 10 students from a private institution had to be rushed to hospital after falling ill.

According to reports the students suddenly became ill on Thursday while at a private institution located off Tonique Darling- Williams Highway.

Police were alerted that around 12:15 pm, the students started experiencing dizziness, vomiting and became faint while participating in physical education activities.

The students were transported to hospital by ambulance where they are currently under observation.

Investigations are ongoing into this incident.

Meanwhile, the private institution, Achievers Christian Academy, has since issued a statement on the incident to clarify and dispel certain information.

The Academy noted it has been reported that the unfortunate illness of the students may have been connected to the presence of or interaction with missionaries who visited the Tonique Williams-Darling campus on Thursday.

In a letter addressed to parents, school Principal, Dr Matheo Smith advised that upon preliminary investigations, it was determined that the students who felt unwell had all participated in rigorous physical activities during their physical education class.

The Academy said it is in contact with the parents of these students and has assured them of their full support. Additionally, the Academy will continue to focus its efforts on assisting authorities with their investigation.

Achievers Christian Academy also reassured all parents and the public that the safety of students is its utmost priority, and they are committed to ensuring the Academy’s future leaders have a safe environment for learning and development.
