Grenada at 50: Scholar crowned Independence calypso monarch

He competed against nine contestants to dethrone defending champion Nevion Cox.

Finley Jeffrey “Scholar” also known as “King Scholar” has won Grenada’s 50th Independence calypso finals competition 2024. He competed against nine contestants to dethrone defending champion Nevion Cox.  

Scholar, performed his winning song ‘Still Young’ to take the crown and prize of $15,000.  

Micah Joseph ‘Baracka’ took second position and walked away with the prize of $12,000 for his performance of ‘50 Stories’ and Jermaine Simon ‘Superstar’, who captured third position in the competition won $10,000 for her performance of ‘At 50’.  

Scholar, who is a veteran in Grenada’s calypso arena – a 10-time calypso monarch king – now has the distinction of being remembered in Grenada’s history for winning the Independence calypso competition as the island celebrates its 50th anniversary of Independence.
