Engine failure blamed for plane crash in The Bahamas

Blessings Aviation Charter (BAC) said their plane, which crashed shortly after takeoff from the Lynden Pindling International Airport in The Bahamas, suffered engine trouble.

In a statement following the incident, BAC said the Cessna 402’s left engine failed resulting in the pilot being unable to get the aircraft airborne.

The pilot was the only person onboard the plane, which was heading to Fresh Creek on Andros Island, when it crashed and later caught on fire around 4:33 pm on Saturday.

He was not injured.

BAC commended the pilot for his quick thinking as he diverted the plane to a deserted area of Coral Harbour Road, preventing a further tragedy.

“We are grateful to God that due to the quick thinking of our pilot, he was able to re-route the aircraft to an abandoned area prior to the crash, ultimately avoiding any loss of life. It is truly a blessing to see the fruit of our ongoing, in-house training in action. Aircraft maintenance and safety is a top priority within our company therefore we will be working closely with the proper authorities to understand the cause of this crash,” BAC said.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority has launched an investigation into the matter.
