According to the last survey conducted in 2016, 17.2 per cent of households were below the poverty line, an increase by two percentage points on the 2010 figure of 15 per cent, according to the ministry.

As part of Government’s commitment to providing citizen-centric governance, this initiative has been designed to make it more convenient for Barbadians to voice concerns, file complaints, and offer suggestions about government services, all from the comfort of their homes.

Noting the projected figures for the 2023/2024 season are 392 cruise calls with an estimated 715 527 cruise passengers, compared to last season’s statistics which were 358 calls with 608 269 cruise passengers, the minister said, “this translates to a projected 18 per cent increase year on year”.

Earlier, the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) had reported that it was reliably informed that senior officials of the CDB had been sent on administrative leave, but that its sources could not provide further details at this time.

The country’s ministry of health says there was one confirmed case, a 70-year-old male, and a suspected case, a 48-year-old male.

Speaking with Barbados Today,  Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Arthur Phillips said the case is being treated.
