Bandit shot by police in The Bahamas

Police said they received reports of a housebreaking in progress at Ocean Street and Malcolm Road west and when they arrived a silver Nissan Cube was seen speeding away from the scene.

A 29-old-year man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot by a member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) yesterday.

Police said they received reports of a housebreaking in progress at Ocean Street and Malcolm Road west and when they arrived a silver Nissan Cube was seen speeding away from the scene.

A chase ensued and officers intercepted the car near the intersection of Pebbles Drive and Jumbey Drive.

“It is reported that the suspect upon exiting the Nissan Cube confronted the female officer, which resulted in a struggle and her service weapon being taken by the suspect. As a result, a male colleague being in fear of his life and the life of his colleague withdrew his police service weapon, which led to the suspect being shot to his hand and lower torso. He was taken to the hospital via EMS services, where he is detained, in critical condition,” RBPF said in a statement.

A 34-year-old male, who police said is a known burglar, was also detained during the incident.

A search of the getaway vehicle revealed a variety of electronics, including flat screen televisions, gaming consoles and other personal property.
