International Day of Education (24 January) highlights education as a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.  In this blog, Davion Leslie, Programme Manager, Human Resource Development, CARICOM Secretariat, illustrates the critical need to use education as a tool for promoting peace in our Region. 

The first offering of the QOES programme ends in May 2024.

The meeting is being convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Ministry of Education of Chile. It is co-organised with the CAF Bank, the World Bank, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The MOU will be in place for four years from 2024 and covers the support of teacher professional development through CXC’s Professional Learning Institute and the development of the regulatory approach for a Caribbean Micro-credentialing Framework.

Education and Youth Minister Fayval Williams said an estimated 20 percent of the national budget goes towards education.

A survey conducted in July 2023 identified 154 schools already equipped with a total of 1,955 security cameras, forming the foundation for improved safety measures.

“That type of knowledge that would have been gathered over the years will come to St Kitts and Nevis to help us to advance as a Federation,” he said, sharing his administration’s vision of transforming the twin-island Federation into a sustainable island state.

This year, twenty-eight (28) applicants were considered by the National Training and Scholarship Advisory Committee (NTSAC).

The Commonwealth Scholarship programme is aimed at students from across the Commonwealth who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK.

The course will be held from August 8th to August 14th, 2023, from 5 PM to 7 PM at the ICT Lab in the Brades Innovation Centre. The course is free to attend and is open to ages 16-35.
